Ghazi Mohammad Ayub Khan

Ghazi Mohammad Ayub Khan, also known as The Victor of Maiwand, was Emir of Afghanistan from October 12, 1879, to May 31, 1880. Born in 1857 in Kabul, he was the son of Sher Ali Khan and a member of the Barakzai dynasty. He is best known for leading Afghan troops during the Second Anglo-Afghan War and defeating the British Indian Army at the Battle of Maiwand. After his defeat at the Battle of Kandahar, he was deposed and exiled to British India but later fled to Persia. In 1888, after negotiations with the British, he became a pensioner of the British Raj and lived in British India until his death on April 7, 1914, in Lahore. He was buried in Peshawar and is remembered as a national hero in Afghanistan.
