Maria d'Apparecida

Maria d'Apparecida was a Brazilian painter who was active since the 1950s. She was best known for her abstract paintings, which often featured bright colors and geometric shapes. She studied at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes in Rio de Janeiro and later at the Academia de Belas Artes in São Paulo. She moved to Paris in 1959, where she met and married the French painter Félix Labisse. She exhibited her work in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. She was influenced by artists such as Paul Klee, Joan Miró and Wassily Kandinsky. She also experimented with different materials, such as wood, metal and fabric, to create her pieces. She died in 2017, at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful and influential art. She was a member of the Brazilian Academy of Arts.
