Harshita Dahiya

Harshita Dahiya was an Indian playback singer and dancer who was known for her Haryanvi 'Ragini' songs. She was born and raised in Sonipat, Haryana. She started her music career at the age of 18 and released close to 50 music albums. She also acted in several Haryanvi films. She was considered a rising star of the Haryanvi music industry and was giving competition to many established singers and dancers. She posted a video on social media that was termed controversial by some people and received death threats for it. In 2014, she filed a complaint of rape against her brother-in-law, Dinesh Karala, a gangster, who was later arrested and jailed. She also accused him of killing her mother. On 17 October 2017, she was shot dead by two unidentified men, when she was returning in her car, along with three others, after performing at Chamrara village in Panipat, Haryana. According to sources, the men asked her driver and another female companion to leave and then shot her head and neck at close range. She died on the spot. Her sister, Lata Dahiya, alleged that her husband was behind Harshita's murder as she was a witness in her mother's murder case. The police arrested Dinesh Karala and four others for their involvement in the murder. Harshita was mourned by her fans and the music fraternity.
