John Cornelius O'Callaghan

John Cornelius O'Callaghan was an Irish historian and writer who was born in Dublin in 1805. He was educated at Clongowes Wood College and was called to the bar in 1829. However, he preferred a literary career and contributed to various political and cultural magazines, such as the Comet and the Irish Monthly Magazine. He was a founder member of the Irish Archaeological Society and edited Macariae Excidium, a secret history of the war of revolution in Ireland. His most famous work was History of the Irish Brigades in the Service of France, which he published in 1867. He died in London on April 24, 1883.
