About me / Bio:
Naseem Thebo was born on 1 April 1948 in Shikarpur, Sindh, to a Kashmiri family. Her mother, Badam Natawan, was the first Sindhi female novelist, and her sister, Benazir Thebo, was also a writer. She received her early education from Garhi, a village in Dadu District, and later earned an MA in Economics from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro. She joined the University of Sindh as an associate professor in the Department of Economics. She was also a short story writer and a contributor to Sindhi literature. She wrote her first story, 'Ghoran Ji Rekha,' meaning 'line of teardrops,' when she was in tenth grade. Some of her other stories include 'Ghayal The Ghariyan,' meaning 'living being injured,' 'Wadhay Jin Widhiyas,' meaning 'those who wounded,' 'Mon Jherenday chhadia,' meaning 'I left them fighting,' and 'Ubhur Chand Pas Piren,' meaning 'O moon rise and behold my beloved.' Most of her story titles were inspired by the verses of the Sindhi Sufi poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. She also wrote some essays and translated some plays from English into Sindhi, such as The Government Inspector by Gogol. Her stories were published in various Sindhi magazines and journals, and later compiled into a book titled Ubhur Chand Pas Piren, which was published by Sindhi Adabi Board in 2013. She was married to Sindhi politician Rasool Bux Palijo, and had three children. She died of natural causes on 19 March 2012 in Karachi, at the age of 63. She is regarded as one of the finest writers of Sindhi literature.
