Khadija Mastoor

Khadija Mastoor was a Pakistani writer who worked in Urdu literature. She was born on 11 December 1927 in Bareilly, British India to Tahawwur Ahmad Khan, a doctor and a government employee. She migrated to Lahore with her family after the independence of Pakistan in 1947 and settled there. She started writing short stories in 1942 and continued writing till her death. She wrote romantic, realistic and progressive plays and stories that dealt with social problems and common issues. She was influenced by the Romanticist Movement and the Progressive Movement in Urdu literature. She was affiliated with Radio Pakistan and many of her plays were broadcast and gained popularity among the masses. She is considered one of the prominent Urdu playwrights of the Modern Era. She won six prizes and awards from the Pakistan Writers' Guild, including the Pride of Performance in 1981. She died of a heart attack in London on 25 July 1982 and was buried in Lahore, Pakistan.
