Amenhotep, son of Hapu

Amenhotep, son of Hapu, was a prominent figure in the court of Amenhotep III, the ninth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty. He started his career as a scribe of military recruits and rose to become the overseer of all royal works. He supervised the construction of many temples and monuments, including the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III, the Colossi of Memnon, and the temple of Soleb in Nubia. He was also a priest of Amon and a scholar who wrote several treatises on medicine, mathematics, and astronomy. He was highly respected and honored by the king, who granted him a small funerary temple next to his own and embellished his hometown of Athribis. He was posthumously deified as a god of healing and wisdom, and was associated with Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine, during the Ptolemaic period. He was revered by later generations of Egyptians, who inscribed his name and titles on many statues and stelae.
