Vasilya Fattakhova was a Russian pop singer and actress, popular among the Tatars and Bashkirs. She started her musical career as a backup singer for Aidar Galimov's band in 1999. She gained fame for performing the song "Tugan Yak" (Homeland) in the Tatar language, which won several awards and became a symbol of national identity. She also sang in Russian, Bashkir, and other languages, and released four albums: Homeland (2002), Strings of Love (2008), The Best (2012), and Let's Hurry (2016). She also appeared in several movies and TV shows, such as The Last Hero, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, and The Golden Calf. She was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples in 1991 and the Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Republic of Bashkortostan in 2015. She died of cancer on January 26, 2016, at the age of 36, leaving behind her husband and two children. She is remembered as one of the most beloved and talented singers of her generation.
