Sahure

Sahure was the second ruler of the Fifth Dynasty of ancient Egypt, who reigned for about 13 years in the early 25th century BC. He was probably the son of his predecessor Userkaf and Queen Neferhetepes II, and was succeeded by his son Neferirkare Kakai. Sahure’s reign marks the political and cultural high point of the Fifth Dynasty, as he had important trade relations with the Levantine coast, launched naval expeditions to Punt and Sinai, and ordered military campaigns against Libyan chieftains. He also built a sun temple called “The Field of Ra” and a pyramid complex in Abusir, which was adorned with exquisite polychrome reliefs. Sahure was the object of a funerary cult that lasted until the end of the Old Kingdom.
