Rashid Yassin was an Iraqi journalist, poet, literary critic and university professor. He was born in Baghdad in 1931 and completed his primary and secondary education there. He graduated from the College of Arts in Baghdad University in 1954 and obtained a PhD in Arabic literature from the University of Edinburgh in 1963. He worked as a journalist for several newspapers and magazines, such as Al-Thawra, Al-Jumhuriya, Al-Adab and Al-Mada. He also taught at Baghdad University, Al-Mustansiriya University and the University of Basra. He wrote more than 40 books on various topics, such as poetry, criticism, history, culture and politics. He was a member of the Iraqi Writers Union and the Arab Writers Union. He died in Baghdad in 2012.
