Thutmose III

Thutmose III was the sixth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty who ruled Egypt from 1479 BC to 1425 BC. He ascended the throne around the age of 10, but his aunt, Hatshepsut, ruled first as his regent and then in her own right for the next 20 years. Thutmose III was a skilled warrior who brought the Egyptian empire to the zenith of its power by conquering all of Syria, crossing the Euphrates to defeat the Mitannians, and penetrating south along the Nile River to Napata in the Sudan. He also built a great number of temples and monuments to commemorate his deeds. He is often regarded as the greatest of the rulers of ancient Egypt and the father of the ancient Egyptian navy. He is also considered one of the most powerful and celebrated rulers of the New Kingdom Period of Ancient Egypt, itself considered the height of Egyptian power. Furthermore, he is widely considered one of the greatest warriors, military commanders, and military strategists of all time. He recorded his military campaigns in detail in the inscriptions known as the Annals of Thutmose III. He was succeeded by his son, Amenhotep II, who was his junior co-regent for the final two years of his reign.
