Eneas Carneiro

Enéas Carneiro was a Brazilian physician and politician who was born in Rio Branco in 1938. He was a polymath who studied physics, mathematics, and medicine. He became a cardiologist and anesthesiologist and worked as a professor and writer. He also served in the Brazilian Army as a sergeant. He founded the Party of the Reconstruction of the National Order (PRONA) in 1989 and ran for president three times, in 1989, 1994, and 1998. He was known for his distinctive appearance, his fast speech, and his slogan "My name is Enéas". He advocated for nationalist and conservative policies, such as nuclear power, compulsory military service, and moral values. He was also critical of globalization, neoliberalism, and corruption. He was elected as a federal deputy for São Paulo in 2002 with the highest number of votes in the history of Brazil: 1.5 million. He was re-elected in 2006, but died of leukemia in 2007. He was married three times and had three daughters. He wrote several books on law, politics, and social justice. He is considered one of the most influential and controversial politicians in Brazilian history.
