About me / Bio:
Cho Jang Mi, also known as Jammi, was a South Korean online streamer and former volleyball player. She started her career as a volleyball player in 2013, playing for the Seoul Metropolitan City Women’s Volleyball Team. She retired from volleyball in 2018 due to a knee injury and became a Twitch streamer in 2019. She mainly streamed games such as League of Legends, PUBG, and Among Us, as well as lifestyle content. She was also affiliated with Dia TV, an online creator network owned by CJ E&M. She was popular for her cheerful personality and attractive appearance, and had over 290,000 subscribers on Twitch and YouTube combined. However, she also faced cyberbullying and malicious comments from internet users who accused her of being a radical feminist and a member of controversial online communities. She denied these accusations and explained that she was unaware of the meanings of some words and gestures that she used in her videos. She also revealed that her mother, who helped her manage the comments section, had committed suicide in 2021, possibly due to the harassment from online trolls. She announced her retirement as an online streamer in May 2020, but returned to Twitch in November 2020. She was found dead at her home on February 5, 2022, after taking her own life. Her family said that she had suffered from serious depression and trauma from the cyberbullying. Her death sparked a nationwide outrage and a petition to the government to regulate cyberwreckers, who are YouTubers who make commentary videos of contentious issues using compiled footage and photos. One of the cyberwreckers, who had uploaded multiple videos accusing Cho of being a feminist, was sued by her family for defamation and incitement of hatred. Cho’s fans and fellow streamers mourned her death and paid tribute to her legacy.
