Tonny Koeswoyo was an Indonesian-born Hong Kong musician and actor who became the leader of the legendary music group Koes Plus. He started his musical career in 1962, when he and his brothers formed Koes Bersaudara. They were arrested and jailed by the Sukarno regime for playing Western music. After their release, they changed their name to Koes Plus and became one of the most popular and influential bands in Indonesia. They created many hit songs, such as Diana, Kembali, and Andaikan Kau Datang. Tonny Koeswoyo also ventured into acting and starred in more than 100 films, mostly in the martial arts genre. He collaborated with famous actors and directors, such as Lo Lieh, Jackie Chan, and Sammo Hung. He died of a heart attack in 1987 at the age of 51. He is regarded as one of the pioneers and icons of Indonesian music and cinema.
