Sultan Idris ibn Raja Iskandar

Sultan Idris ibn Raja Iskandar was the 28th Sultan of Perak, who ruled from 1887 to 1916. He was the son of Raja Iskandar, a descendant of Sultan Muzaffar Shah, and Raja Ngah Aisha, a daughter of Sultan Abdullah Muhammad Shah II. He was known as a wise and benevolent ruler, who brought many reforms to his state. He was also a staunch defender of Malay rights and culture, and resisted British interference in his affairs. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, the first modern school for Malay elites, and the Sultan Idris Training College, the first teacher training college for Malays. He also improved the administration and judiciary of his state, and promoted the development of agriculture, trade, and infrastructure. He was widely respected and loved by his subjects, as well as by other Malay rulers and British officials. He was also a devout Muslim, who supported the propagation of Islam and the preservation of Islamic law and customs. He died in 1916, and was succeeded by his son, Sultan Iskandar Shah. He is remembered as one of the greatest and most progressive sultans in Perak's history.
