Doppo Kunikida

Doppo Kunikida was a Japanese author of novels and romantic poetry during the Meiji period, noted as one of the inventors of Japanese naturalism. He was influenced by his Christian faith, the poetry of William Wordsworth, and the social issues of his time. He wrote about nature, human relationships, and the hardships of life. He was also a war correspondent, a journalist, a teacher, and a publisher. He had a turbulent marriage with Nobuko Sasaki, who divorced him after five months. He later married Haruko Enomoto, with whom he had five children. He died from tuberculosis at the age of 36. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Japanese literature and a representative of the romantic movement in Japan. Some of his famous works include Musashino, The River Sumida, The Withered Fields, and Azamukazaru no Ki.
