Irruppam Veedu Sasidaran

I. V. Sasi was an influential and prolific filmmaker who made his mark in Malayalam cinema during its transformative period from the 1970s to the 1990s. He started his film career as an art director and later became an assistant director. He directed his first film at the age of 28 and soon carved out a name for himself in the industry. His films were known for their uniqueness, technical brilliance, and stylish making. He explored various genres and themes, such as social issues, sexuality, politics, crime, romance, and action. He introduced many actors and actresses to the film world, such as Mammootty, Mohanlal, Seema, Jayan, and Soman. He also collaborated with some of the finest writers and technicians of Malayalam cinema, such as M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Padmarajan, T. Damodaran, Ranjith, and Lohitadas. He received many awards and accolades for his films, including the J. C. Daniel Award, the highest honor in Malayalam cinema, in 2015. He also directed films in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi languages, and worked with stars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Chiranjeevi. He was married to actress Seema, whom he met on the set of his film Avalude Ravukal, which was a landmark film in Malayalam cinema. They had two children, Anu and Ani, who are also involved in the film industry. I. V. Sasi died at his home in Chennai on 24 October 2017, due to a massive heart attack. He was 70 years old. He was cremated at the Besant Nagar Crematorium in Chennai. He is remembered as one of the most influential and pathbreaking directors of Malayalam cinema, who redefined commercial cinema and bridged the gap between art and commerce.
