Naba Kishore Das

Naba Kishore Das was an Indian politician who was a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2009 until his murder, representing Jharsuguda. Originally a member of the Indian National Congress, he later switched to Biju Janata Dal. He was also the Minister of Health and Family Welfare of Odisha at the time of his death. He was known for his popularity among the people of his constituency and his efforts to improve the health infrastructure and services in the state. He was also involved in various social and cultural activities and was a patron of several organizations. He was assassinated by a policeman who was his former personal security officer on 29 January 2023, when he was attending a public event in Brajarajnagar. His death sparked widespread shock and grief among the people of Odisha and the political fraternity. He was given a state funeral and a three-day state mourning was declared in his honor. He is survived by his wife and two children.
