Slogan
The king who knew how to rule and how to live
About me / Bio:
Sigismund was a member of the House of Luxembourg who became King of Hungary and Croatia in 1387, King of Germany in 1411, King of Bohemia in 1419, and Holy Roman Emperor in 1433. He was involved in many political and military conflicts, such as the Crusade of Nicopolis against the Ottoman Turks, the Hussite Wars in Bohemia, and the Western Schism that divided the Catholic Church. He also convened the Council of Constance, which ended the schism and condemned the reformer Jan Hus as a heretic. He founded the Order of the Dragon, a chivalric society that fought against the enemies of Christianity. He was known for his diplomatic skills, his lavish lifestyle, and his patronage of arts and sciences. He died of plague in 1437 and was buried in Nagyszombat. He was the last emperor of the House of Luxembourg and one of the longest-reigning rulers in European history.
