Jerome-Adolphe Blanqui

"Jérôme-Adolphe Blanqui, also known as Adolphe Blanqui, was a French economist who made significant contributions to the fields of labour economics, economic history and the history of economic thought. He was a disciple of Jean-Baptiste Say, under whom he studied, and succeeded him as the chair of political economy at the Conservatory of Arts and Crafts in 1833. He was also a free trader and a supporter of commercial freedom. He showed sympathy for the working class and advocated for social reforms. He was a prolific writer and a noted public speaker. He published several books and articles on various topics related to economics, history, politics and society. His most important work was History of Political Economy in Europe (1837), which was the first major study of the history of economic thought from ancient times to his own era. He also wrote about the economic and moral situation of Spain, the history of commerce and industry, the elementary principles of political economy, and the condition of the working classes in France. He travelled extensively in Europe and reported on his observations and experiences. He was an early member of the Society of Political Economy, which was founded in 1842 by Pellegrino Rossi. He died in Paris on January 28, 1854."
